You may have heard us mention “The Curiosity Approach®”, perhaps when you viewed one of our nurseries in Barry or Cardiff, or in one of our newsletters. This may have left you thinking, what exactly IS this approach?
The Curiosity Approach prioritises (you guessed it…) curiosity! It focuses on creating spaces that are calming, warm, and inviting, filled with pockets of curiosity, soft furnishings, and cozy nooks where children can feel safe and at ease. It sees children have access to natural, open-ended resources such as wood, fabrics, shells and stones, and explore real world wares and authentic items such as old tech, pots and pans, clothes, and dinnerware.
With plastic, noisy toys out and open-ended resources and everyday items in, children have more control over their playtime, encouraging them to think independently, build confidence, and be curious.
In our nurseries, while we still offer some structure in our activity planning currently, we are also pleased to be able to provide children the opportunity to explore, create, and discover at their own pace with the resources available to them. We’re thrilled to already be seeing the children responding to more freedom in their environment, and the play this leads to.
By implementing the curiosity approach and providing children with an environment in which there are many possibilities and choices to be made, we aim to nurture inquisitive, critical thinking individuals with a lifelong passion for learning (because if learning is fun, why wouldn’t you want to do it!?)
We’re passionate about creating an environment that feels in lots of ways like an extension of home – one of the core principles of The Curiosity Approach.

We’re excited to be on this curious journey, and can’t wait to share more updates along the way!
