Playdates – what they are and why you should attend one at Daisy Day Nursery

At Daisy Day Nursery, we create opportunities for parents and children to connect and learn together through “play dates”. Parents or other loved ones are invited to join us in the nursery, usually for an hour, to experience first-hand the children’s environment and share in the joy of play. Activities are planned and facilitated by our team, and can often be themed to celebrate significant events.

Whether you’re building blocks, having fun in the garden, exploring our sensory activities, or being immersed in imaginative play, our playdates are aimed to promote connection through play and bridge the gap between home and nursery.

It’s not just about having fun though – there are some deeper benefits happening too!

When the children’s loved ones attend and actively participate in the session, it promotes a sense of familiarity and safety for the children, especially if they’re a bit younger, helping them feel more confident and secure in the setting. When parents spend time in the setting with a child, much like they do during our settling in process, it can help children make the connection that it’s a safe place.

Seeing their parents and loved ones interact with our team and the other children in their group can boost a child’s sense of belonging too – “these are my friends, and these are the grown-ups that look after me, and we’re all here together!”

Playdates are a great opportunity to gain insight into a child’s interactions and learning, in an environment that’s totally theirs to show off to you. They can help you strengthen relationships with staff and even start relationships with other families!

Previous playdates have included flower arranging, baking, animal encounters, and pyrography keepsakes. We look forward to welcoming the families of the children attending Daisy Day Nursery for more playdates and fostering the connection between home and here.
